Marshes to Mansions

Very good recipes - not too challenging for a home cook. Loved the fact that there is an index page preceeding each section of the book, i.e. the index page before the appetizer section lists all appetizer recipes that follow and the page on which they appear. Another great feature is throughout the book you will find wonderful cooking tips and information about various foods as well as interesting facts about Louisiana culture, geography, and places to visit. Recipes that can be prepared ahead are marked with clock hands and the words Make ahead at the bottom of the recipe and at the end of the book there is a page giving substitutions for ingredients you might not have on hand. But the best feature of this book are the excellent recipes - a wonderful mix of some old favorites given a new twist and many new recipes that I have not seen in the absurdly large number of cookbooks I have collected.

Gorgeous

This is one of the most beautiful cookbooks I have ever seen. Being from the region, I feel that sometimes people do not get an accurate picture of who and what we are. This book tells it beautifully. Not only with wonderful regional recipes, but with beautiful photography and interesting and insightful information. This would be a wonderful gift for someone not from here who would like to get an idea about the area and the culture of Southwest Louisiana.
