Book Overview

She'd pay the price with two words. I do. After a shocking media exposé reveals that the compelling stranger she lost her virginity to is debauched bachelor Dante Mancini, Piper Riley is stunned! Their unexpected but exquisite night has left them inextricably bound... When Dante learns that Piper is pregnant, the heartless playboy sees the perfect opportunity to restore his business reputation--by making Piper his wife! But Piper won't settle for anything less than happy-every-after. Dante must overcome his past to prove to Piper--and the world--that this is more than a convenient match...

I liked the book

I'm not real familiar with Rachel Thomas, but I have read her. I was not overly impressed by her effort here; the second book in the Brides for Billionaires series. Piper Riley is a rather idealistic, dream-loving character who consistently fails to acknowledge the public persona of billionaire Dante Mancini; who she falls hard and fast for after giving him her virginity. I find it irritating and incredibly naive that romance novels closely follow the edict that women who lose their virginity to a partner fall hopelessly in love with them. This seems to be the case in this tale. Dante and Piper both have developed images of themselves, relationships, love, business, society and parenthood that foreshadow their association and entanglement. Piper was far too vulnerable to her emotions; Dante far too jaded and rigid. The need for Dante to redeem himself in the press and in his business dealings was not properly levied against Piper's need to secure a father-figure for their child. Both character's needs and expectations are detailed redundantly and ad nauseum. Piper finally called a resolution to the stalemate- and I respected her character for accepting Dante's limitations and the futility of her efforts to wrap up the "business deal". Was it necessary to capitulate? Was the business deal salvageable? You'll have to read through the conclusion of the novel and decide for yourself. I was undecided about moving on to the next book in the series, " Married for the Sheikh's Duty" by Tara Pammi. The character type in Book 3, and the impression this second book failed to make upon me, dampened my enthusiasm. Ultimately, I decided the intrigue regarding the last two business tycoons the series was based upon piqued my curiosity sufficiently to proceed.
