The life of a young man from boot camp at Parris Island, through the Pacific Theater during World War 2, and after his active duty ends. George Baker and his one love, Johanna grow a family and become involved in local affairs. He then becomes a champion for veterans in his later years as a congressman, utilizing his personal experiences in the Pacific and his treatment and care by the Navy's Bureau of Medicine after being wounded on Tinian. There is little patience for Veterans Affairs management or those in congress who don't share his loyalty to those who wore the uniform of their country.
