Marilee

Marilee, by Mary Francis Shura, captured every emotion and enabled you to actually feel what Marilee felt. I cried with Marilee when Matthew died and I cried when she finally was able to confess her love for Timothy. I could not put the book down. At some points I had to read ahead to know who I could trust or how everything was going to turn out. The part that I enjoyed thoroughly was the end. I absolutely loved it when Timothy came back from the "march" and out of no where expressed his life long feelings for Marilee. The last few pages were so well written that I wanted to read it over and over again and share it with other people. My favorite quote from the entire book was the last paragraph on page 351, "This was love, not magic, not concerned caring, but finding yourself in someone's arms so comfortable that it was almost as if you had been born to end up there." That quote explains it all and the way love should be for everyone. "Life's a dance you learn as you go, sometimes you lead and sometimes you follow. Don't worry about what you don't know, life's a dance you learn as you go." That is a quote from a song that I think paraphrases the theme of Marilee. It demonstrates the way Marilee went to Virginia, lived with Matthew and Abigail and had no control over anything. She made friends and got used to the new life, but it was definitely a part in her life when she had to follow her heart and learn about herself. Matthew died, Michael married Abigail and Timothy had to go to war. Despite all of her trials she never complained and turned every bad situation into something that led her to her true love, Timothy. The author did a fabulous job incorporating the hard life scenario with a girl who could stay optimistic. That theme clearly symbols my life also, because I think it's a good quote to live by. There is no need to stress about what you don't know because it will come with time. If you enjoy a twisted romance with historical places and situations then you have to read this book! I utterly love this book, and I don't enjoy reading most of the time. Marilee allowed me to escape my typical life and be enchanted by an adventure of an ordinary, congenial girl. One who endured death, betrayal and hate and was able to find her soul mate regardless of everything. Marilee is a person I would like to be friends with. The way Shura writes the book allows you to fall in love with the characters and the story. It's a book in my opinion, everyone should read to get away from daily problems and to enjoy a classic romance.

I loved it

Marilee has to be my favorite sunfire, perhaps my favorite book. It was a clever combination of adding accurate history, and romance. How she was strong, and wanting to help out. Not expecting to be waited on hand and foot and how she helped her friends. She was really someone you would like to be like. I loved this book so much!

A great Sunfire

After reading the back of this book I was psyched to read the real thing. This book is about an orphan named Marilee who comes to Jamestown Virgina to meet her brother. But what Marilee doesn't expect is that her sister-in-law, Abigail, would hate her, and that three men, Philip, Michael, and Timothy, would fall in love with her. Life gets worse and worse for Marilee. Can she survive through the hatred, Indian attacks, and the ultimate betrayal to claim her true love?

Great book!

After her father dies, Marilee sails from England to Jamestown, Virginia, where her brother and his wife live. But her brother's wife is bitter and nasty. Then her brother dies in a Indian attack, one of the men Marilee loves marries her brother's widow, another sails to England, and Marilee must decided if the one left is the one she truly loves.
