Margie & Edna Mae The Christmas Surprise

By Kathleen Vincenz

Late one Christmas evening, eleven-year-old Margie traipsed through the woods to meet her best friend, Edna Mae, to share their Christmas surprises. Each year the girls met to show each other their best Christmas gift. This year, Margie was sure hers was the best. After all, how many girls got a piece of Florida for Christmas? But Margie is disappointed to see that Edna Mae received something even better, something Edna Mae can't, or won't share--skates.

What are the girls to do? With one orange, one pair of skates, and two girls? Find out in this sweet tale about two girls living in 1938 Wisconsin during the Great Depression.

Fun for independent readers or as a read-aloud for younger audiences.

I had the pleasure of knowing the people on whom these stories are based, and your stories put me right back in the time of the Great Depression, cousin of the real Margie.
