The novel is the long monologue of a woman of forty who is beginning a new life with a man who is a widower with a son. She herself has two little girls whose father left them several years ago.
How does one exist for a man in mourning ? How does one find one's place without walking in the footsteps of the dead ? And how should one live with a traumatised child when one isn't his mother ? During a two week vacation in the hills overlooking the sea, five people swaying between fear and hope observe each other, explore each other, put each other to the test and attempt to find room to breathe between a painful past and an improbable future.
This book addresses the problem of reconstruction by placing this so-called recomposed family at its heart.
