When the self-published Marden's Guide to Manhattan Booksellers hit the stacks in 1994, it was selected one of the outstanding reference books of the year by the New York Public Library. The Strand's Marvin Mondlin called it one of the best guides of this type I've ever seen. Our new and revised edition opens with a preface by Arthur Miller and details over 500 stores. We are proud of this addition to our list, and proud to be part of the great tradition of New York bookselling.
This book is now very much out of date. The surprise is that it is still useful though less so than when new. Many of the stores have closed but some are still there; particularly the specialty stores. The book is fun to read, too. As a small publisher, it's a help to me to find those small, independent stores. Martha@littlepearpress.com
