The image of Marcos was shaped by Dennis Adams' styling of the cars, which started out with a Volvo-engined 1800 in the early 1960s. That shape went on to be modified into the Mantula, Spyder and Mantara. Always designed as a fast road car this depended on the engine chosen. In the GT the Volvo B18 was supplemented by Ford 1600, Volvo 3-litre and later the Rover 3.5-litre V8. In the Mini-Marcos the 850cc engine eventually grew to 1300cc giving impressive performance.
