Marcea notices tire tracks from cars and pickup trucks that have traveled the long, serpentine dirt road, the only way in to the remote area. She can see the fine, red desert dust churned up by the vehicles, still lingering in the hot afternoon air above the road. Turning off the engine, she allows her pickup to roll into some close-by brush. Stepping out, she makes her way on foot toward some dense sage, about a quarter mile down the road.
