Outlines many solid models depending on a particular facility's speciality or goal

When the management of a health facility is botched, people can die. "Managing Health Services Organizations and Systems" is the newly expanded and updated fifth edition, continuing its well-earned reputation for being a complete and comprehensive manual for health care facility management. Discussing healthcare in the modern United States, its long and storied history, and the vast variety of different organizations throughout. It also discusses personnel, ranging from the janitorial staff to corporate executive officers. Other chapters include the development of hospital technology, the law and the many challenges the field faces in it, basic finance, and many more. Enhanced with indexes, glossaries, acronym guides, and much more, "Managing Health Services Organizations and Systems" is an absolute essential to any health organization and for community library collections catering to hospital administration.

not for layman

There are certain books used in graduate Health Care Admin classes. This is one of them. This book is not easy to digest and it was not meant to be. It approaches wide range of topics regarding health care management in US, but not in great details. For greater details one needs subject specif books. Overall I would say this is a good graduate-level intro to health care management book. I have the 4th ed, which was published in 2004. I found myself constantly going back to it. It's missing a star because it does not have a table or a key section for abbreviated terms; the authors assume that we know or love spending time looking up for hundreds of terms they probably defined in previous chapters. Also I would have liked to see brief contents and a detailed contents in the beginning. 4th ed. has only detailed contents. So, for example, if you are looking for a chapter on HR, if you had brief content, you'll see that chapter starts from page 531, but in detailed content you have to flip through 7 content pages to find it.

The book is a little hard to read

My professor warned us in advance that it will be a hard read.. IT IS but I have to read it for Health Care Management.
