Since their independence, most African countries have embarked on a series of reforms aimed at placing public bodies at the heart of development strategies to ensure that the legitimate needs of their populations are adequately met, and to lay the foundations for economic and social development.In order to better manage public affairs and improve the performance of public bodies, the relevant authorities have introduced reforms aimed at modernizing public administration, in line with the trend towards convergence of public-sector management practices with the rules applicable in the private sector.The aim of this book is to discuss the causal links between administrative reforms and new public management.
