Management Strategy for Aphids Infesting Vegetables

Studies revealed that A. craccivora, A. gossypii were observed to be most pre-dominant on vegetables. In A. craccivora total length and breadth of body varied from 1.73 to1.85 (1.79) and 0.77 to 0.97 (0.87) mm, respectively, total length and breadth of thorax measured 0.55 to 0.60 (0.58) and 0.28 to 0.32 (0.30) mm; whereas, total length and breadth of abdomen measured 0.69 to 0.84 (0.77) and 0.30-0.38 (0.34) mm, respectively.Incidence of aphids was noticed almost in all vegetables from first week of January the peak period lies between 1 to 10 meteorological weeks. The experiment conducted on efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi against dolichos bean revealed that the lowest aphid population in the treatments of Verticillium lecanii 7.5 g with 33.70 aphids/3 leaves. Regarding use of insecticides for management of aphids on dolichos bean, 0.01 per cent acephate 75 SP recorded 25.66 aphids/3 leaves. The total yield in treatment 0.01 per cent acephate 75 SP as compared to 45.92 q/ha in control. The natural enemies C. sexmaculata was found to be predominant one.
