Excellent for exploring how astronomy has impacted society

I honestly think I read a different book than the other review. Man and the Stars deals with astronomy and the calendar, time, navigation and other science. If you are interested in celestial navigation then this is a great overview.
Contact and communication with other planets
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 27 years ago
The first half of the book is about travelling to other planets: Do we want to? how to do it, and possible problems. The second half is about communication with extra-terrestrials - some methods you probably haven't thought of (why should radio-astronomers have all the fun?)and has it happened already? If aliens did try to communicate with us, would we know? Also includes a witty look at ufology and the sort of ancient astronaut stuff which Von Daniken made popular. Written by an astronomer, the first half drags on a bit, but part 2 will really blow your mind
