Mama Dip grew up in Chatham County NC and my grandmother in Duplin County. I only ate at Mama Dip's restaurant one time,
but when I saw her cookbook I knew I had found a gem. Her recipes are just like my grandmother's were--great Southern cooking. We didn't care about a person's race, we just loved Southern cooking. In this book you will find the best sweet potato pie recipe, fried okra, pecan pie, and the winner is the apple cake (with some peach brandy on top). I'm hungry thinking about it.

I watch the Food Network a lot; this book is the antithesis of that. No weird names; no combining ingredients that weren't meant to be together. The opposite of chi-chi.
