Mei-Mei sees the perfect Christmas gift for herself -- a soft, warm teddy bear -- but it is too expensive. However, Mei-Mei learns that the very best Christmas present of all has been there all along. This description may be from another edition of this product.
I have been looking for good, solid stories about Chinese Americans in ordinary settings. This is one of the best I've found. Though the illustrations are not lush or lavish, like in many multicultural-themed books, this book captures all the warm comfort of home and family. Mei-Mei is a thoroughly appealing protagonist who demonstrates resourcefulness, determination, discipline and creativity. Her relationship with her mother is strong and inspiring. Even though she does not succeed in raising enough money to buy her dream bear, she learns something more even more valuable.
A sweet story

This is a nice story about a girl who really wants a Teddy Bear that she see's in a store window. I am fond of stories (like this) of everyday families that find pleasure in the small things in life. At the end of the book, her own mother ends up being the best Teddy Bear of all- and my own children and me get to give each other a hug.
