Malignant salivary gland tumors are a group of cancers that develop in the salivary glands, which are responsible for producing saliva. These tumors can arise in any of the major or minor salivary glands located in and around the oral cavity, including the parotid, submandibular, and sublingual glands, as well as numerous minor glands distributed throughout the lining of the mouth and throat.These tumors are relatively rare, accounting for only a small percentage of all head and neck cancers. However, they exhibit a wide range of clinical behaviors and can vary significantly in their presentation, growth patterns, and aggressiveness.
