From Disney comes "Maleficent"-the untold story of Disney's most iconic villain from the 1959 classic "Sleeping Beauty." A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land's fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal-an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king's successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom-and perhaps to Maleficent's true happiness as well.
We all know the fairytale "Sleeping Beauty." Some of us from books, some of us from movies, some of us from both. So, as hard as we try, we find ourselves coming to this movie with preconceptions. However, you will find that the fewer preconceptions you have, the more intriguing the movie becomes.
Without going into too much detail, so that this film will still be a surprise to you, we find the true nature of the evil godmother Maleficent, played mostly by Angela Jolie. By the way, can you spot Vivienne Jolie-Pitt as Aurora (at 5 yrs?)
Be prepared for a modified story. If the writers and producers miraculously can make sense of good and evil, the real sleeping beauty, a true lover's kiss, and a fairytale that you will want to pull off the shelves and watch periodically for the rest of your life.
