Cote d'Ivoire, due to its geographical position and its climate, is suffering from the pandemic of malaria. Pregnant women and children under five years of age pay the heaviest price. To face this scourge, the Ivorian government has set up since 1996 a National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) and has already developed three five-year strategic plans, the last one covering the period 2012-2017. This plan emphasizes free access for all to prevention and treatment through free distribution of LLINs, free IPT for pregnant women and early treatment of malaria cases in children under five.Nearly 19% of children with suspected malaria cases in the last two weeks prior to the survey did not receive any treatment. In order to contribute to the improvement of malaria case management in children, this study addresses the influence of individual and community characteristics on treatment abstention in children under five years of age.
