It's actually pretty useful. I have always, always wanted to make my own things- clothes, shoes, you name it. Things manufactured today are so cheap, flimsy and don't last. This book is not a big thick heavy book, it's not too far off from the size of a school spiral bound notebook- but a bit larger. The language and illustrations are quite simple. The required items needed to make your own shoes are all very easily obtainable things- shoe glue, leather, things like that- the author actually buys used shoes (for parts, etc) from thrift stores or "cannibalizes" her own old shoes for use in new ones. No, an old shoe is not a requirement, but it can make things simpler. She has complete and simple instructions from START to FINISH- even a home recipe to make your own "lasts" that is, the foot model for your own made shoes. I enjoy this book- now, if I ever get round to actually making my shoes is another story! I do hope so, the pattern/"recipes" are quite simple enough.
