The Story begins in the late 1780s and is told by Mahr's caregiver after Mahr suffered an injury. The story starts as he recounts his life while in recovery. Mahr is the son of Panunka, the tribal chief's daughter, fisher for the tribe, and a single mother. One morning, she does not return from fishing, and a very distraught Mahr begins to search for her. The story, as told by the caregiver, begins. Mahr had an inspiring and adventurous life, culminating in establishing a new settlement founded on land awarded by Meriwether Lewis. The settlement was based on forward-thinking principles that his family and the settlers enthusiastically embraced.
