Hidden behind this cheap paperback and even more ordinary-looking cover are the keys to the kingdom if you wish to know about great and practical magic. As an 'insider' within the pivotal Broadway hit The Magic Show with Doug Henning, I can now reveal that one of the illusions described and illustrated in this book became the climax to the entire show. That's because nobody could think of anything better. The sweep of great magical thinking in this book is nothing short of phenomenal. There are astounding new ideas that are hard to match and plenty of brain-rattling approaches to classic magic methods. All of this wrapped in a delightful sprinkling of really good and odd tales about the great performers of magic. If that is not enough there are two really entertaining bonus sections. One reprints the bizarre tricks of the ancients and the other a runs a cross-section of honestly amazing advertisements for tricks sold by dealers in magic equipment. Most of these items were 'the latest' when the book came out in the early 1960s, but almost all of them are either white hot collectible now or displayed as museum pieces. This George Anderson knew his magic. He also knew what was enjoyed by audiences. It is a shame that the book was published in such a shoddy form. Classics should never be dressed in rags. Now there's wishful thinking for you. Ian Buckland.

I have owned this book for some 25 years. I am a semi-professional magician and I give it my HIGHEST recommendation. Over the years, when approached about getting involved in magic, I always recommend this book. It has VOLUMES of great ideas and tricks in it, close-up to stage illusions to escapes to mentalism, all beginner or intermediate skill level. Get this book. You'll treasure it for many years to come. --The Great Zucchini (www.the-great-zucchini.com)
