Felicity, a young librarian, is certain her only adventures will come in the form of the books she reads. When her uncle reveals that the palace librarians have the secret gift of interpreting fairy tales, stories that control the fate of the kingdom, she is thrust into a new world of magic. Between rescuing Cinderella, charming a prince, and battling an evil force trying to sabotage the fairy tale, Felicity realizes orchestrating a happily ever after ending is going to take all of her wits. However, it
WHERE DO I EVEN START?! It's amazing. Fantastic. A beautiful fairy-tale retelling. I NEED MORE!
Thank goodness it literally says Book 1, or I would seriously cry. Not only was there a mild cliffhanger, I just...well, I fell in love with this Universe and it's characters and I.Want.More. SO BADLY!
*stops fangirling and moves on to actual reviewing*
It's a very clean book - the only thing was a couple kisses between an unmarried couple, and one was a page long. Literally. We're talking basically squeaky clean here. Which I SO appreciate! A lot of YA novels, ESPECIALLY FANTASY, are either dark, dirty, or both, and it's both disappointing and frustrating. (Or it's boring...or all three.)
This book isn't a fast-paced novel like, say, Alex Rider, but it GRABS you from the first page. And from then on, you just want to know more! I had a reallyyyyyy hard time putting it down, and I thoroughly enjoyed every single page!
Alex and Fliss and Jack were my favs. Oh yes, of course I loved Max and the snarky Fairy (pleaseeeeeeee tell me we get more of her!!) and Cinderella, too. They were ALL great characters! But I just adored those three in particular. Jack is more of a side character, yes, but he's bold and brave and loyal and funny and *no I'm not really spoiling anything* he's kinda chill about discovering magic exists. (I SO want more adventures with him!) Alex is brave and snarky and maaaaaan does he have a high pain tolerance!!! and he cares so much for his country and family and friends like...can he be real? Can I be Cinderella? *laughs* #NewBookCrush ... (I also have a book crush on Jack, haaaaaaaaaaalp!) And Fliss...man, I loved her! Also snarky, loyal to a fault, so sacrificial, spunky, bouncy, (SHE SWORD FIGHTS OKAY?!) and ready to do anything for those she loves.
Bravo, Allison, bravo - it's a masterfully woven story, and I cannot WAIT to see what new adventures you have in store for your amazing cast of characters! (Or what new characters you'll come up with!) Thank you for giving me the chance to experience your world!!
(She kindly offered to send me her book if I gave an honest review. This is my very honest review, and I'm so thankful she gave me this opportunity. If you haven't read this book, PLEASE DO!)
