Maggie is a young woman of 19 who lives in Kells Bay in Southwest Kerry in Ireland. She is given the opportunity by the village doctor, Dr. Charles Cavendish, a retired British army surgeon, to train as a nurse in a hospital in London. At the outbreak of the second world war Maggie volunteers to go to France to work in a field hospitalMeanwhile back in Ireland her mother becomes gravely ill. She begs Maggie's childhood sweetheart, Joe O' Riordan, to bring her daughter home to see her one last time before she dies. And so begins an adventure which takes Maggie and Joe from war-torn London to the battle fields of France. A story of Friendship, Love, Courage and War.
