What is madness? Can one, like Erasmus, praise madness? Certainly not. Madness, the real thing, is terrible for those who live it and for those around them.We show that madness has always existed. We find examples of it in the earliest stories, in all eras up to the present day. We look to see how she was apprehended. So we approach madness through mythology, medicine, theology, philosophy, law, history, social, literature, the press, the arts, psychiatry, psychoanalysis, and so on.As this is a modest book, we rely on everyday life, on little history, anecdotes, famous affairs. We see how madness is understood, treated and cared for. We see that it is just around the corner.We also highlight some people who had the courage to want to treat her and to whom we pay tribute, especially in the second half of the 20th century.
