The Madagascar hissing cockroach (scientifically named Gromphadorhina portentosa) is native only to the island of Madagascar. Unlike most cockroaches, the Madagascar hissing cockroach is wingless. As they are unable to fly they have developed an excellent ability to climb and scale a range of different surfaces. Their lack of ability to fly has again allowed this species to develop a tough exoskeleton to protect themselves from predators.
