This chapbook of "bipolar poetry" describes the difficulty I've had putting my diagnosis into words. Even the feelings about mental illness contained in this book seem confusing at times, but that's because it's confusing to live and thrive with mental illness (to put it lightly). I've had depression for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until I had my son (at 36) that I was hospitalized and began writing poetry. It's the only way I could see fit to write about mental illness because of the complexities involved. It's my way to express the raw, fleeting feelings and experiences of pain, insomnia, madness, and healing that come along with mental illness.
