Best Book Ever Written on This Subject, I have purchased 10 of them

This is absolutely the best book ever written on this subject. Very understandable, has great examples geared towards educational use. Best approach to application building on the topic. So why is Kevin not getting better reviews. His book hit at the transition to actionscript 2, so some of his code examples will not run in 2 since letter case is not strictly adhered to. In addition, towards the end of the book some of the code examples need rework (I have done that), and guess what not all the code in Brian Lesser's book works either. This is the book that got me going and without it I would not have made it this far. Thanks Kevin for your work on this book! If you are serious about Flash Com, you will buy every book you can get your hands on (and right now there are only 3 of them). This is the best one for a beginner/intermediate flash programmer creating educational applications. I strongly recommend it! Note: (last time I checked) The book code no longer exists on his companion website.
This book is required for serious FlashCom developers

All I can say is that I totally agree with Kevin Towes. Anyone who feels that there is another book out at the moment that is better than this could be the reason why there aren't any inspirational FlashCom work out there. This is the foundation. Nothing else compares with it. Forget about the typos and work to make the projects in the book work for you. I have, so there is no excuse. Great work Kevin!

This book represents Flash Communication Server MX version 1.0. Currently version 1.5 is available, with new Flash UI Components. There are significant changes to some of the ActionScript and components from version 1.0 to version 1.5. These changes may cause the code examples in the book to fail. Please review the release notes from Macromedia if you are having problems with the exercises. There are updates (errata) and free code samples on the book website: http://flashcom.pangaeanewmedia.ca. Flash Communication Server MX is a complicated product with a lot of moving parts. I strongly recommend downloading the chapter examples, and installing them on your computer as you follow through the book.Flash Communication Server MX is a powerful product, and this book will help you get the foundation you need to build incredible video conferencing, messaging and always-on applications using the Flash player.
Very good Resource for getting started with FlashCom

After reading the last review, I felt I needed to post a comment. I am not sure where Ms. Madison is coming from, my experience after going through this book was much different. I found the exercises quite helpful with understanding new concepts with the technology. The examples presented in the manual were very "light" in their explanations where this book is quite detailed, and builds the projects up in a way that is comprehensive, and easy to follow and understand. All the code listings are available on the book's website, and even live working examples too. I did notice one missing code sample, but I am sure the author will have that available soon. I give the book a 5-star rating, for its easy-to follow approach, and its level of detail. I hope this review responds to Ms. Madison's clearly un-reflective review of this book. It is a great investment, and I love the price - I wish more computer books were priced this way.

The manner in which this book is written, allows the user to gain a real insight into the features and functions of this software. Macromedia has a great product here, and with Mr. Towes clear, concise, and user-friendly approach to his book, no doubt it will only increase in popularity. Hats off to the author for the efforts he put into writing it.
