Macro-environmental analysis of irrigation water in the Mediterranean

The issue of water in the Mediterranean is becoming increasingly important due to global warming, natural disasters such as droughts and floods. It has been studied scientifically from several angles, namely institutional, social, ecological, economic, social, environmental, managerial, and technological of irrigation and water supply. The aim of this book is to make a participatory macro-environmental analysis and good practices for water-efficient irrigation in the Mediterranean region and in particular in Morocco. The methods of analysis are the review of the literature. The countries of the southern Mediterranean region such as Morocco differ from those of the northern Mediterranean. This difference is in terms of type of crops, water management regulations, availability of labor, financial viability and economic perspective approaches. This participatory analysis raises the need to apply a specific approach in the choice of irrigation and water supply technology, depending on the regional context.
