This is the (1971) rendition based on Shakespeare’s play “The Tragedy of Macbeth” by Executive Producer Hugh M. Hefner. Music by “The Third Ear Band” If this is your introduction to Macbeth, I suggest that before watching any version, you watch “Shakespeare Uncovered - Macbeth with Ethan Hawke.” There are stage plays filmed. There are staged plays for filming. There are outside plays filmed. There are outside plays for filming. This is a film based fairly closely on the play. That means something may have been moved or exaggerated and, in many cases, underplayed. The basic story is that a warrior who does a good job is granted land by the king. However, this warrior named Macbeth is prophesied to become king by three witches. With the help of his ambitious wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth helps push the prophecy forward. We watch as the process unfolds, and we see the consequences. For those new to Macbeth, it’s fun to watch it unfold and also do a little bit of Kibitzing. For people who already know the story, this is a uniquely well-done rendition. Every film has a different introduction. In this one, we get the witchy scene and the initial war taking place on the Tidelands (no Grunion). This is one of those presentations where we get to hear what is thought instead of long spoken soliloquies. (People do not need to act; they just stare while their thoughts come out of their either.)
