In 1957 Garnette Petersen and her husband, Sidney, left the comforts of their home in Duluth, Minnesota to serve as missionaries in Liberia, West Africa. In this book, based on years of journaling and personal letters to her mother, Garnette documents her experiences living in Liberia, 5,500 miles from friends and family. Garnette's passion and motivation for her missionary work was to tell Liberian men and women about Jesus Christ. Sometimes she taught Bible lessons about Jesus. More often she lived Jesus by teaching life skills, caring for those in need, cooking, or by sewing a wedding dress. In this book Garnette tells the stories of her life as Ma Petersen while living in Liberia.
