Based on real-life events about a Finnish immigrant couple, who came to America in hopes of starting a better life. Despite Lydia's strong work ethic and devoted religious principles, most of her children fall victim to the power of alcohol. The novel will also take you on a personal journey through the challenges faced by Lydia's granddaughter, as her quest for love and yearning for a happier life on Cape Cod unfolds. Will she ever find happiness and true love?Foreword - My mother was always recognized as "the writer" in the family, and she wrote this collection of family events, back in the late 1960s and early 70s. As a child growing up, I remember the repetitive click-snap-click-ring of her old Woodstock typewriter. The earlier rough rendition of this book was tucked away in her attic, for nearly 50 years, as she was discouraged from submitting it to traditional publishers; but now in her senior years of life, she decided to finally finish it.I offered to proofread and edit this book; and I was quickly transported back in time to the hard-working farm-life of a struggling matriarch. Later in the book, I became completely submerged within the family conflicts, as if I was there myself. As you read these stories, my mother's memoirs will take you back to life on Cape Cod, as well, to the 1960s, with all of its contentment...and personal challenges...and fun...and agony...and crazy antics.I feel very blessed to have been the editor of this fine novel, and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have. You will laugh. You may cry. You may even be shocked at times; but one thing is certain, you will be very much entertained. And so it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to...Lydia Hakala's ChildrenKippis!Mark V.
