Outstanding Study Bible

As a Lutheran this is something we have wanted for a long time. It is in the NRSV, which is hard to find. It gives helpful insight to specific passages, and information about the writer and time of each book. This would be a great study Bible for all Christians.

Very definitely focused on the Lutheran student, this bible offers the usual study notes plus comments based on Lutheran theology. There is plenty of room for personal notes in the margins as well.
Really Something Quite Extraordinary

Over the course of four academic degrees and several years as a parish pastor, I've accrued a lot of Bibles. Way too many: dozens, scores. Most I could give away without regret. But I've got to say, this one truly is something special. It is a remarkably high quality product, filled with excellent scholarship from seminary professors, theologians, and pastors for whom I have the utmost respect and admiration. This is theology done right, and written to be accessible (and, yes, enjoyable) for people of every walk of life. Cynical as I often am about religious publications, this one is extraordinary in every way. Five stars.
For the people

At first glance the thought is 'big' when you see the Lutheran Study Bible. Then as you open it the clean attractive layout draws you in to examine it further. Three different symbols categorize and identify notes in the side bars of the Biblical text. A fourth symbol in the side bar identifies a question for engaging the reader. Each book is introduced with background information, a synopsis and recognized value. In addition to the traditional timelines, maps, etc. that are included in Bibles there is a section on Martin Luther and the Bible. In this section is Dr. Mark Powell's "Lutheran Insights that Open the Bible" that will be popular with those who have heard his lectures on this topic. A subject guide takes the place of a concordance. Only time will tell if I prefer it to the standard concordance, however at first glance it does appear that particularly for the beginning reader this guide will be easier and more often used. Whether you are looking for your first Bible, want to gift a faithful Bible study leader, or want to renew your own reading and study of the Bible this is definitely a worthwhile investment.
