Lisa's ongoing research in the realms where science and art intersect, sound, and music composition. Working with discoveries made by Dr. Tsvetan Bachvaroff, which involve identifying the DNA sequence in dinoflagellate microbes that allow them to produce bioluminescence via the luciferous enzyme, Lisa created an oral counterpart via a text to midi algorithm written by Jan Willem Kolkman entitled Luciferous DNA. The resulting musical score covers six hours and 40 minutes in length and this book is the written score of that composition. Composed by the organic activity of the dinoflagellates themselves, this musical score represents an opportunity for us humans to submerge ourselves into their world and witness, by virtue of our sense of sound, their hidden universe. The musical score was originally produced as an audio recording for an exhibition for the Light City Festival at IMET in Baltimore's Inner Harbor in 2019. Using a system built by the artist, the installation allowed the dinoflagellates to bioluminesce according to their own DNA.
