It s only natural that rock and roll the devil s music and Satanism should be intimately linked. Lucifer Rising explores this unique cultural confluence. Divided into three parts, the book first traces the history of Satanism, from the birth of the Black Mass through the fashionable sinners of the Hellfire Club. The second section examines Satanism in the 20th century, including Aleister Crowley, the formation of the Church of Satan, the Manson Family, and the rise of occult-influenced bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. The book s third part looks at the new waves of Thrash Metal, Death Metal, and the Scandinavian Black Metal scene; the murder case surrounding the band Burzum; the neo-Nazi element; and the religious right s courtroom pursuit of heavy metal. Lavishly illustrated throughout with graphics, medieval woodcarvings, and stunning photographs, the book also contains entertainingly cynical comment from Anton LaVey, in one of his last in-depth interviews."
It is a good book on what satanism is.Also metaphorically a good like at satan throughout history. As of satanists I withhold my opinions.
History book/rock and roll journalist

This book is like the title to this review says. It read like a history book mixed with journals from a rock journalist. It has a lot of information that you won't find an any easy to read book out there, but is kind of mixed with dribble. Though, if you are intelligent enough to not be afraid to read this book, you are intelligent to read through dribble. I compliment the auther for his intense research and citation of it in the back of the book. Being a LaVeyian Satanist myself I don't see it, but people have told me that this book is a little bias against anti-christian opinions, again I don't see it. Buy this book for reference, and makes a good coffee table item :).
This book packs a punch!

I have found this book to be an overall fantastic read. It has taken me a little longer than usual to get through it though, partially because of it's small print and text-book heavy details. There is a LOT of material covered here and there are details galore to support it which is all very satisfying.Reading this book has left me with a much better impression and respect for REAL occultists. The Media Sensationalism of the "Geraldo Rivera-Age" has very poorly and unfairly stained this group of individuals. This book is the text-book remedy AND a very good read!

This book covers the wide spectrum of multi-faceted Satanic beliefs and practices, ranging from the The Church of Satan and Anton LaVey (with interviews) to modern black metal music. It contains interviews with many people involved in Satanism, including:Boyd Rice, the founder of the Abraxas Foundation and the star of the band NonAn interview with Glenn Danzig and his metal outfitBlanche Barton, the current High Priestess of the Church Of Satan since Anton LaVey's death on October 1997Details of Aleister Crowley's sordid lifeThe myth of Satanic ritual abuse and reasons why the media wanted you to believe every word of itMarilyn Manson, one of today's premier musicians."Lucifer Rising" is immaculately reseached, well written and enjoyable. Most other books on this subject pale drastically in comparison. With that said, I'm awaiting another book by this writer- judging from his past material and this offering, he has an eye for quality and adroitness- more than worth the money!
excellent

Extremely well researched. Brings much of the usually-secret Satanic world into public view. If you want to know more about the interesting characters behind this highly misunderstood institution, you must read this. And not only is it well written, but it is well designed, with great graphics and photos throughout the pages. Wow.
