Luca and the glow check: helping children understand what their bodies need

By Miss April Griffiths

Sometimes children get so busy being children that they miss the little clues their bodies are giving them.

Luca loves building.

He can spend hours creating towers, castles and amazing inventions from his colourful blocks.

But one evening, Luca becomes so focused on building that he doesn't notice he is hungry, thirsty, tired and needs the toilet. Suddenly, everything feels too much.

With the help of a simple tool called The Glow Check, Luca learns how to stop, listen and understand what his body is trying to tell him.

This gentle and reassuring story helps children recognise important body clues, build self-awareness and develop everyday independence skills in a way that feels fun, safe and easy to understand.

Perfect for children, parents, carers, teachers and SEND settings, Luca and the Glow Check encourages children to pause, check in with themselves and discover what their bodies need.

Inside you'll find:

- A heartwarming story about body awareness
- The Glow Check tool children can use every day
- A Dear Grown-Up page
- Practical support for developing independence and self-care skills

Helping little listeners notice big body clues.
