Despite being brought into the world by two loving parents who are devoted to one another, Esmerelda Clarke finds herself up against injustice from an early age. However, despite encountering school bullies, followed by poor career and relationship choices as a young adult, Esmerelda manages to keep going, as she hangs on to the hope that one day she will meet the man of her dreams. Esmerelda isn't alone in her struggles, and the lives of several characters become unexpectedly intertwined.
The story illustrates the far reaching consequences of bad decisions, and sometimes bad luck, but also gives hope that with perseverance and a bit of guidance, all can be made well again ... for most at least.
