Loves of my life: Chapter 1 - Vic

This first chapter of the "Loves of My Life" series is dedicated to Victor, my first love. However, it differs from many typical stories about "first loves." It wasn't a perfect romantic tale that left me thinking, "There's nothing quite like your first love."

This love story began when I was 14 years old, almost 15, and it concluded when I was nearly 16. This was a period in my life when I was incredibly insecure, painfully shy, lacked effective communication skills, and was filled with fear due to my limited understanding of life and human intimacy.

Being the only daughter among two brothers in Mexico, I didn't enjoy the same rights and freedoms as boys. We weren't treated as equals, and societal expectations placed distinct pressures on us. Good girls were expected to be cautious, while boys were often praised for having multiple "girlfriends." Their social status even improved with the number of romantic conquests. Conversely, women faced scrutiny and judgment for being perceived as "easy."

In this backdrop, Victor and I became a couple, navigating the uncharted waters of young love. Some of our experiences during that time might not have been necessary or ideal, but that's the way my first love story unfolded, and I'm appreciative of the lessons it taught me.
