Lovers Of The Century was originally written and published in 1999, when Nova Martin was 22 years old. Nova had spent much of that year studying Hindustani music in Northern California, devouring 20th century lyric poetry, falling in love with one of her instructors at the University of North Texas, and fermenting her poetic and artistic practice with a group of close friends and artists who would soon go on to produce the internet famous - PriceMaster (conceptual art film). Lovers Of The Century is a telling snapshot of Y2K era angst; filled with a mix of hopefully romantic love poems, closeted lesbian longings, veiled gender dysphoria, dissonance with capitalism, and an absurd irreverence for American consumerism. The book was originally published in a low volume of 40 copies that Nova gave to close friends and family. It was written mostly in Marin County, CA and Denton, TX, with a handful of pieces written in Colorado, Oregon, and Fort Worth. Nova's best friend and college roommate, Rick Perry, designed and formatted the original print version. The minimal typography and layout of this second edition replicates the feel of that original edition.
