When I first read this book in 1985, I was surprised at the sexual vigor expressed by the authors, who were 74 (Ralph) and 58 (Natalie), and sometimes shocked by their frankness. The book is roughly topical, with chapters containing autobiographical material followed by transcribed portions of Ralph's and Natalie's conversations during episodes of sexual play. What strikes me now is the examination of their emotional/sexual learning cycle, particularly learning how to trust one's deep feelings, how to ask for what's wanted (in and out of bed), and working with emotional wounds sometimes decades old. It was the first book I'd read which discusses changes in lovemaking to adapt to the physical changes due to aging -- in one transcript, Natalie expresses a preference for oral sex without Ralph's dentures being in. It shows a rare courage to be this vulnerable, this naked, with a lover, let alone a book's audience. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in positive views of aging, sexuality, or the human heart.
