From true-to-life characters with imperfect lives to the engaging story of two teens setting off for the unknown land of college, I fell in love with this story. Love Rules succeeded in taking me back to college and at the same time reminding me to pray for my high school seniors at church as they prepare to take a similar journey. Mrs. Mackall did all that without preaching or belittling the importance of faith. She kept it real and brought to light some of the painful pitfalls of college life from sexual temptations to harsh professors. This may be YA fiction, but it's not just for teens. This is a touching, simple story of being unashamed of who you are and staying true to the longings of your heart.
A happy, sweet read that's hard to put down!!!!!

I LOVED this book! It was a very enjoyable read, and took me less than a day to get to the end. I absolutely LOVE Mattie!!! She has the funniest characteristics and you can't help but admire her and love her for her outgoing, generous and inventive personality. She would do the funniest things that just made me laugh...and I always make fun of my sister when she laughs out loud at books. All this to say, I loved the book. Smooth, easy, enjoyable reading, with an intriuging, believable plot and characters you wish you could meet.

Love Rules is a book about two friends that go to the same college, in search of a good education, and of course, love. Mattie and Jake are supposed to write one "Love Rule" a week, and send it to Jake's sister (who is also Mattie's best friend) Emma. Emma has been deaf since birth, and communicates with her brother and friend by email, mail, and when they are together, sign language. While Matt and Jake search for love in all the wrong places, Em notices that they begin to fall in love with each other. I liked how Matt had her options open, and didn't just stick to one guy, like Jake only stuck to one girl. I also liked how Em sent Bible verses about love for Matt to read. I think anyone who likes a good story with lots of drama in it would enjoy laughing and crying along with Matt, Em, and Jake in this book.
Great teen book!

I read this book in 2 days because I couldn't put it down. Follow Mattie on her journey as she leaves her best friend (Emma, who is deaf) and her achoholic mother behind in Missouri to go to a university in sunny California. Her and Emma's brother, Jake, leave together and try to find love at college. Every Monday night, they have to get together and send Emma a postcard with a "Love Rule" on it. Mattie struggles to be herself, until she finally listens to Emma's advice and turns to God for love. She realizes that He loves her for who she is, and she doesn't have to pretend anymore. With that said, it turns out that "Mr. Right", who she's been looking for, has been right under her nose the whole time-and it's the person she least expects.
