Definite page turner

Couldn't put the book down until I finished. The story starts in the 1980's after the main character's husband dies and her old lover surfaces. Most of the book is a flashback over her life, beginning when she is 17 in 1941, working for the first time, her family's attitude toward dating and "soldiers", her first great love and her attempts to live her life without him, always wondering what happened. Interesting commentary on why people get married and the adjustments to another's family upbringing. Very realistic, masterful portrayal of life and attitudes during those years.
