Students, just as children, often ask questions of an amazing simplicity and depth. That is what happened to me when I was lecturing in economics. A student suddenly asked, with great sincerity, "What Makes the World Go Round: Love or Money?" There ensued a long and passionate class discussion. Then I went home and produced a text in which I first summarized the highlights of the discussion and then provided my own answer to the question.
