These letters, written in the Attic style and assigned to characters from comedy and renowned Greek hetairai, were aimed to keep the interest, via humor and sexual circumstances, of restless teenagers destined to learn a Greek dialect prevalent five centuries before they were born. Man's constant pursuit for erotica guaranteed the texts would be duplicated frequently enough to survive, but of their supposed creator, a rhetorician named Alciphron, no trustworthy recollection exists. He should, however, date to the second or early third century CE.
