Love is Strange: A Collection of Poetry

By Jan Kirchner

Love Is Strange makes room for all of them. The heart becomes its own mischievous guide, whispering this way when every reasonable instinct says to turn around. Desire paints the roses whatever color it pleases. Memory rearranges the scenery. Time bends. Doors appear where walls once stood. Old wounds speak. Former lovers become ghosts. New possibilities emerge from places we never thought to look. The collection wanders through these darker corridors as well, exploring the moments when passion becomes power, when affection becomes manipulation, and when the fairy tale begins showing cracks beneath its painted surface. With Love Is Strange, Jan Kirchner does not attempt to solve the mystery of love. There is no final instruction manual waiting at the end of the maze. No magical potion will make every relationship work. No perfectly sensible path suddenly appears beneath our feet.
