Poor Giga who lives in a strange town where everything is watched and Christianity is only a few scratches on a closet wall. With her unusual strength she climbs the building to the roof and escapes the ordered dystopia around her. After she meets Alex, the rumored renegade, the rebel who escaped, explosions begin. She moves further away and sees a very tall lanky man, Skinny, who acts like he knows her. She likes him and trusts him. The two discover a gun-bearing bloody woman with short hair, and her girl. They welcome the two and walk as one, heading where? They decide to trek the hundreds, perhaps thousands of miles to Jerusalem with others they collected on the way.
But they are lost and the world is fiery and the dead pave the road. What is happening around her? What is happening to her mind? The further she gets from her city, the more twisted her thoughts become. But she pushes on, not wanting to separate from the love she can finally see firsthand, the people, the bond between creepy mother and child, the one whose hand she never lets go of. And then there's Ishy, travelling with his brood of eight children, trying to ignore the disaster around them. Run, Giga, run. Try to be good.
Does Giga preserve the goodness in her? Does she help or hinder those around her, the people who won't abandon her despite her flaws. Are they family? Is there a God? What is real? Who is she?
