At the age of 28, Nathaniel Gallagher leaving behind his comfort, dear friends in Birmingham, relocates to Kano city, the northern region in Nigeria, to start a teaching position at the British council. Excited and fascinated about this new city, he is smitten by the diverse and vibrant culture of the north along with the charming and quick-witted Omolara Badmus, the older sister to his student Jide.

When their newfound friendship and relationship begin to blossom, they are cut apart by the bloody 1991 riot without hope for a reunion. Both are downhearted - will faith make their path cross again and is there a chance of a happily ever after for these two from diverse backgrounds.
