Arriving along with a deadly tornado, a school teacher from California and a young Oklahoma farmer with a small son are swept up together in a passion that quickly rivals in intensity the storm that brought them together. Jon is a 31 year old man raising a six year old son alone on a remote farm on the Cimarron River near the small town of Hatchett, Oklahoma after his wife Christine left him when the boy was just months old. Regina is a 42 year old teacher from California on summer break in Western Oklahoma photographing wild flowers when she is injured in a tornado. She stays with Jon and attraction- in spite of age and cultural differences- develops. But their hope of any possible happiness together is compromised when Christine returns with the intention of reclaiming her cast-off son and husband which results in homicidal plans being made.
