Love and Longing in the Age of Chivalry is a blend of poetry and prose. This collection is illustrated w ith the elaborate art of the Middle Ages. ' This description may be from another edition of this product.
I found this book several years ago and have always kept it. It's a grouping of old quotes, poetry, etc and old art that makes a nice compilation. The majority of these quotes are by old poets, composers, and more that no one really knows of unless you've studied this area deeply. There is no table of contents, but there are several sections in the book. The majority of the quotes are compiled in the "Love and Longing" section which is separated throughout the whole book to spread it out. The other sections are "Courtly Love", "Forbidden Love", "Troubadours", and "Lancelot & Guinevere." These 4 sections each have a small description, which I assume is written by the compiler, Martha Scribner, due to no listing of the quoted writer. They give a brief insight to the reason for their admission and a small history. "Love aimed well when he shot his arrow into her heart -- often she grew pale and broke into a sweat; in spite of herself she was forced to love." - Chretien de Troyes, Cliges
