Dear Reader, The fundamental challenge we face as parents is to improve society for the welfare of our children. A very basic and effective way to better society is through educating the family about the importance of understanding one another. The principles of family values, love and respect are key.The purpose of this book is to create a tool by which parents and children can learn more about each other. The book is composed of a series of short stories that bring to life the experiences of Love and Joy, two siblings whose growing pains lead them to learn more about their parents, themselves, and their important roles in the family. Each story is relatable to every child and parent, but is also innovative in that it contains important lessons for both children and their parents. These lessons, in a simple way, emphasize the importance and feasibility of love and respect in the family. As a physician, specifically a psychiatrist, I have facilitated many family transformations. Love and Joy reflects many of my experiences as a mother and a psychiatrist.My goal, with this book, is to make the important lessons contained in this book accessible to all families. I wish to dedicate this book to all children, to all parents, and to my own children, who taught me how to be a caring mother and and how to guide them to be successful in their lives.
