Jennifer felt a whisper of surprise ripple through the crowded church as another guest arrived for her brother's wedding. Such excitement, she thought, could only be caused by someone special. She turned to see the newcomer, but one of the best men blocked him.

Catching her brother's eye, Jannifer smiled sweetly at him. Peter smiled back at her, but quickly averted his eyes. He seemed to be lost in his own thoughts. He sat with his head bowed low and restlessly fiddled with a carnation pinned to the lapel of his jacket.

Jannifer frowned, trying to figure out what was wrong. It's natural for the groom to be a little nervous on the day of the wedding, but even the night before, when they were having dinner with the family, Peter was unusually tense. He hardly ate, but drank quite a lot. Peter was clearly hiding something. But what?
Jannifer!
She flinched at that familiar deep voice. And when she turned to the tall, dark-haired man standing by the pew, her heart sank.
